Mild Chaos and Monumental Magic at Fan Expo Denver 2026

The Colorado Convention Center became the epicenter of the geek multiverse last month as Fan Expo Denver 2026 officially took over the city. The energy on the floor was absolute lightning—boasting incredible attendance numbers, buzzing aisles, and an unmistakable sense of community that reminded everyone why we do this. From the moment the doors opened, the sheer volume of Hollywood royalty in the building was staggering. Fandom lines stretched down the hallways as fans clutched memorabilia, eagerly waiting to see heavy hitters like The Boys superstar Karl Urban and the ever-charming Orlando Bloom. The celebrity area felt like a fever dream of pop-culture synergy. But while individual star power was everywhere, it was the monumental, historic franchise reunions that truly defined the weekend and had our onsite correspondents completely buzzing.

For fantasy enthusiasts, the weekend felt like a journey back to the Shire in the absolute best way possible. In celebration of a milestone anniversary, Fan Expo delivered a legendary The Lord of the Rings gathering, bringing together all four iconic Hobbits alongside major cast members like Orlando Bloom, John Rhys-Davies, and Miranda Otto. The panels were a beautifully emotional affair, completely packed to the rafters with generations of fans anxious to ask the cast questions about their time in Middle-earth. Whether you were lucky enough to score tickets to have the Hobbits actually serve you Second Breakfast or you attended the massive "Evening with the Hobbits" main stage event, the nostalgia was entirely palpable.

While Middle-earth brought the magic, the undisputed peak of panel theater came from the highly anticipated X-Files cast reunion. Billed as one of the largest gatherings of the franchise's cast to date—featuring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Robert Patrick, Mitch Pileggi, Annabeth Gish, Nicholas Lea, and William B. Davis—the main room was electric. However, the universe threw a curveball when the designated panel moderator was nowhere to be found.

In lesser hands, a missing moderator at a major convention could spell disaster, but the paranormal veterans handled the glitch flawlessly. The stars instantly pivoted, taking matters into their own hands and acting as their own moderators. What followed was a beautifully candid, uniquely unstructured, and hilariously fun experience for the packed crowd. Duchovny and Anderson's classic chemistry completely carried the room, creating an accidental, one-of-a-kind memory that felt far more intimate and memorable than a standard, rigidly rehearsed Q&A ever could have.

No massive event is completely without its logistical speedbumps. Like many high-attendance conventions, navigating the initial badge pickup lines proved to be a test of patience. Additionally, clearer signage and distinct labeling for designated photo areas would go a long way in helping photographers and cosplayers coordinate on the busy floor.

However, looking past those standard growing pains, the organizational team stays firmly on top of the event execution.

When the dust settled and the exhibition floor cleared, Fan Expo Denver 2026 stood as a resounding triumph for the regional community. Between the massive Merchant Mesa shopping sprees, the stellar organization by the staff, and the unparalleled warmth of the local cosplay scene, the convention proved that the heart of fandom is beating stronger than ever.
